Student Coaching
If you are interested in becoming a student coach with St Francis Youth Hockey, please follow the instructions below.
Student Coach Requirements
- Must be between the ages of 13 - 17 years old.
- Only able to student coach at a level below their current playing level (ex. Bantam/15U player can student coach at a Peewee/12U level and below).
Register as a SFYHA Student Coach
Registration to become a SFYHA Student Coach is a 3-step process, as outlined below. Student coaches will not be allowed on the ice until all three of these requirements are met in its entirety and rostered to a team.
- Register as a member of USA Hockey.
- If you are registered as a player for the current season, you do not need to re-register with USA Hockey
- Complete the SFYHA Coach Registration.
- You must register with USA Hockey before completing the SFYHA Coach Registration.
- Complete the SFYHA Student Coach form below and return to the SFYHA Registrar. (this form stays on file with SFYHA)
SFYHA Student Coaches must adhere to the following:
- Always be under the direct supervision of a rostered coach during all practices, clinics, try-outs, and in the locker room.
- May assist at on-ice practices and dryland.
- Will not participate as a player in practices, scrimmages or games.
- Will not act as a head coach or an assistant coach during practices or games.
- May be on the bench during games with an adult. The student coach will count as one of the maximum of four Team Officials allowed on the bench.
- Must wear a helmet with full face shield, gloves, and skates while on the ice. Must wear helmet during games while on the bench.
- Will need to complete SafeSport training if turning 18 during the year in which they are coaching.
- Upon reaching the age of 18, the student coach must comply with the USA Hockey Screening Program and meet the USA Hockey Coaching Education Program requirements which will qualify him/her to act as an assistant or head coach.
- Must comply with all USA Hockey, MN Hockey, D10 and SFYHA policies.
